My journey to self love.
In Mark 12:29-31, it clearly tells us that there are two commandments which Jesus says are the most important. The first one is to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. The second one He mentioned, He specified was equally as important, was to love your neighbor as you love yourself. Through my journey I have learned that in order to love anyone, I have to first love God and know God’s love (1 John 4:7-12). Therefore, if I know the love of God I can now express that love. But now, how am I supposed to love anyone if I don’t love myself? The commandment said to love your neighbor as you love yourself, so if you don’t love yourself how can you possibly love your neighbor? I believe that God calls us to love ourselves the way that He loves us. For me personally, it has been a journey. Growing up I wasn’t taught to love myself. I was never very secure about who I was and what I believed. As a young woman I struggled to find my identity. Once I surrendered my life to Christ, I experienced a love that I had never felt before. The love of the Father. With the help of the Holy Spirit I began to understand everything that God had done for me, because of His love for me. Not only did I see what He did but I understood what He thought of me.
I am loved, John 3:16
I am His,1 John 3:1
I am precious, Psalm 139:16
I am chosen, 1 Peter 2:9
I am made new, 2 Corinthians 5:17
I am forgiven, 1 John 1:9
I am fearfully and wonderfully made, Psalm 139:14
These are a few of the many things God says about us. He loves us! I had to learn and am still learning to love and accept my flaws and imperfections because He loves me that way. He made me that way, not by mistake but on purpose! I’ve made the choice to love myself everyday. Struggling with lack of self love is not easy, but with the help of God, it is not impossible to love yourself. Besides the word of God, something that has helped is surrounding myself around women who inspire me. Women who not only inspire me through their lives, but women who inspire me to accept myself for who God has created me to be through His word. We hope that through Grace Lane Goods you not only shop but that you may interact and get to know some inspiring women! If you haven’t already make sure to check out the “Her journey” tab on the website. We want to create a community of women who inspire each other and we would love to recognize those people who have inspired you!
